With the completion of the the exterior renovation last fall, the committee now turns its attention to the interior.
First steps include moving the pews and stoves into temporary storage, removing the wainscoting and then tearing out the lath and plaster. When that is complete, the carpenters can work at reinforcing the roof trusses and preparing the ceiling for drywall.
We will consult with an electrical designer to plan for the lighting and heating of the structure. Once a plan is approved, electricians will install the conduit and boxes that will run in the walls and ceiling.
The final step to be completed in 2009 will be the spraying of foam insulation in the walls and fiberglass fill in the ceiling. Foam will be used to increase wall rigidity and repell moisture and insect pests.
Meanwhile, plans are being made for the refurbishing of the pews and wainscoting lumber. The committee has suggested that families consider "adopting" one pew and paying for its refinishing. A professional refinisher is charging $225 per pew for this service.
Last Year:
Over the summer, a new porch was added, the trim along the roof edge was completed, the renovated windows were installed and the church was professionally painted. Buried electrical service was also connected to the building.
Thanks to everyone who helped with the food stands or contributed financially to the project.
